The panopticon with a cruciform plan and oriented on the four cardinal points, is apt to receive a geography that the historiographical tradition has identified as the four Tolimas. The visiting public, exploratory traveler and in need of learning about their region, will be able to circulate freely through a generous space and start a journey of a Tolima to be discovered in its corridors and in its 72 cells that house the places, events and characters that have These have been milestones in the department, they throb in daily life and in the historical, economic, environmental, political and cultural struggle of 47 municipalities.

In each cell a theme, a milestone, an installation, a memory niche and a museographic unit (cell-theme). In each cell, a momentum can be experienced with emotion and amazement, the communication of an idea, of a memory, that will keep Tolima alive, symbolic memories that we will all evoke together.

A museum of discovery, of the hint where the traveling visitor and explorer will discover and build, led by his own experience, a comprehensive account of Tolima's space-time.

The temporary exhibitions agenda energizes the museum's discourse, connecting it with new contexts and current themes.

The museum has 3 temporary exhibition halls in the north wing where itinerant exhibitions have already been installed, such as the 46th Salon Nacional de Artistas; next to the ?cell of contemporary interest? in the eastern wing next to the cell? Art of Tolima? in the western wing they aim to make visible new artists and cultural practices.
